Building Little London on the Uruguay Coast

What follows is a relatively shaky translation of an interview in el pais from some uruguayan architect who thinks he can engineer a high society in uruguay.

Uruguay can attract a qualified immigration, something only comparable with what happened in the first decades of the 20th century.

The settlement would be brought about by am elite group from the first world formed by the investigators and creators of the knowing society.

It is precisely, clearly defined that space offers the country to live and work from the perspective of a citizen of the world.  Because of that, a long range plan should be started and establishing a coordination between the state and private sector affirmed the Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly, who has settled in New York since he was 30 years old.  In a talk with economy & market, the interviewee expressed that Uruguay has a enormous possibilities to redefine itself as a uniqu place in latin america to attract a “qualified” immigration.

He maintained that it’s most important for any country to attract people of a high level of culture than people of means that need to hide themselves for some reason.

THe architect Viñoly alcanzó gained worldwide reknown in 1989 when he won the design prize for building the international lighthouse in tokyo, and in 2002 his design was a proposed finalist for the reconstruction of ground zero, where the world trade center had been.

THis previewed his visit to montevideo at the beginning of october for inaguration of the the new airport terminal at the carrasco international airport, work that he partcipated in.  A summary of the interview follows below.
