Argentina Real Estate

In a lot of ways, Uruguay real estate over the years has been tied at the hip to the fortunes of its larger neighbors, Argentina and Brazil (Brasil).

The market for Argentina real estate is an especially good indicator of the health of the Uruguayan market, due to the heavy influence and similarities in the cultures of the two countries, has been very influential on the markets in Uruguay.

While expatriates from around the world influence the Uruguay real estate market, the economic situation in Argentina has perhaps the most direct influence.

Bank secrecy and liberal foreign property ownership laws have long made Uruguay a money haven of sorts for Argentine money looking for a port in a storm. The property market along the coastal communities of Colonia del Sacramento and the penninsula at Punta del Este have received a lot of foreign buying, especially.

The most popular neighborhoods for foreign real estate buying and speculation seem to be the Ricoleta and Palmero neighborhoods…secondarily perhaps the puerto madera neighborhood as well. All are filled with higher end apartments, nightclubs, bars, and restaurants with a little more international flair than seems to be found elsewhere throughout the city.

These barrios tend to have the higher priced real estate and are considered by the locals to be “safe” or “desirable”

In addition, the neighborhoods of Olivos (slightly more suburban with more houses) is one targeted by foreigners and expats and desirable places to settle in the city of Buenos Aires.

Outside of Buenos Aires, estancias, ranches, estates, vineyards, and farms are sought after parcels of real estate by foreign buyers.

Salta and Mendoza in the north and Bariloche in the south are three of the more famous zones in Argentina outside of the capitol city.
