Uruguay Beach Real Estate

Uruguay Real Estate Beach

Beaches are one thing Uruguay has plenty of. Uruguay’s relatively flat pampas mean that most anywhere the countryside meets the ocean or rio plata, it produces a nice beach along the coast. Sure, there are some rocky outcrop exceptions, but by and large there is a lot more beach than there are people to inhabit them — except during the holiday season.

For years, Uruguayans of all kinds have been flocking to the numerous beaches during the summer months, and many small beach communities have cropped up around vacation homes that are occupied, or rented out as summer rentals for the months of December through March.

Lately, these former vacation beach resort communities are some of the hottest Uruguay real estate out there. They have been gaining popularity as places for expats to make permanent or semi-permanent homes (and snow-bird), and have been given a lot of exposure by Lee Harrison and his writeup on Uruguay done for International Living.

Of course, for years, Punta del Este real estate has been a favorite of locals and expats, and of course, Montevideo real estate is popular for a lot of expats who either work for large multinational companies, work for the government, or for some other reason need to be located in the big city.

However, for a lot of the recent arrivals, they are finding a little slice of heaven in the area located between the captial city and punta del este While technically still on the plata river, the expanse of the river means that residents see ocean waves and miles and miles of white powdery sand beaches.

Popular haunts include, El Pinar del Sur, Solymar, Atlantida, Playa Verde, Punta Colorada, and Punta Bellena. For those expats looking for their own little slice of Uruguay beach real estate these white sandy beaches on the semi-sweet waters of the rio plata are proving irresistible due to reasonable prices and proximity to the major metropolitan areas — including the international airport in Montevideo.

This weekend we visited El Pinar del Sur, located approximately 30 minutes to the east of downtown Montevideo, and a very easy drive. The Beach is covered in powery white sandy dunes, piled high, which makes it ideal for all kinds of beach activities including horseback riding and quads (4 wheeled motos). We chose to do some sand boarding and had the entire beach, more of less, to ourselves. Bright blue skies, white sandy beaches and the sound of gentle surf. Pretty ideal really.
