Uruguay Land Prices

El pais, a big national newspaper came out with a recent report on Uruguay land prices. This is my attempt to translate the story.

During the first six months, purchases and sales of land (farmland) fell 60 percent compared to the same period of 2008, but the prices increased by 25%, and are now 2,299 usd per hectare.

The market for Uruguay farmland and agricultural land in particular is strong.

The large groups situated in Uruguay are looking to expand and that increased the number of inquiries to the real estate agents in the last few weeks.

In contrast, there are almost no Uruguay real estate transactions happening for timberland or ranching, according to various agents.

According to the ministry of farming, ranching and fishing, 849 operations were realized in the period resulting in almost 143,000 hectares for 328MM usd demonstrating a reduction in sales of 60% compared to last year.
